RJD Unveils 143 Candidates for Bihar Elections

The RJD's candidate list includes 24 women and 18 Muslim candidates

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday announced its list of 143 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with Tejashwi Yadav set to contest from Raghopur.

This announcement comes as the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), comprising the RJD, Congress, CPI(ML)L, CPI(M), CPI, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), faces internal discord over seat-sharing arrangements.

The RJD’s candidate list includes 24 women and 18 Muslim candidates, reflecting the party’s commitment to diversity.

Notable figures such as Chandra Shekhar from Madhepura, Veena Devi from Mokama, and Uday Narayan Chaudhary from Jhajha are among those fielded. Additionally, Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav has been nominated from Chapra.

However, the announcement has highlighted ongoing tensions within the alliance. The Congress has fielded candidates in constituencies where the RJD had already announced its nominees, including Kahalgaon, Valmiki Nagar, and Araria. This overlap indicates unresolved seat-sharing disputes between the two parties.

Despite these challenges, Congress leader Surendra Rajput emphasized that the alliance remains intact, with differences being addressed through dialogue. He contrasted the Mahagathbandhan’s approach with that of the NDA, highlighting the absence of internal conflicts within their coalition.

The final phase of nominations for the Bihar Assembly elections is scheduled for October 20, 2025. Voting will occur in two phases on November 6 and 14, with results to be declared on November 14.

As the election date approaches, the Mahagathbandhan’s ability to resolve its internal disputes will be crucial in presenting a united front to the electorate.
