₹116-Crore CGST Administrative Complex Launched in Ghaziabad

People-first tax centre aims for transparency, accountability, sustainability and user-friendly services, all under one roof

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the new Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Bhawan in Ghaziabad on Friday, marking a significant addition to the region’s administrative infrastructure. Constructed at a cost of ₹116 crore, the building is located in Kamla Nehru Nagar and has been designed to bring key GST-related services under one roof, with the aim of enhancing efficiency and ease of operations for both taxpayers and officials.

The seven-storey complex has been built on a 2.21-acre plot and includes two basement levels, along with parking facilities for around 300 vehicles. It will house the CGST Commissionerate, Audit Commissionerate, Appeals Commissionerate, and the Pay & Accounts Office. By centralising multiple wings that earlier operated from separate locations, the government expects faster coordination, improved workflow, and reduced procedural delays for citizens seeking services.

Addressing officials and guests at the event, the Finance Minister said that infrastructure plays a pivotal role in shaping administrative outcomes. She stated that the government’s approach to GST implementation has focused on making compliance simpler and more transparent, while ensuring that taxpayer concerns are addressed promptly. Sitharaman added that accountability within the system must remain firm, noting that procedural fairness and discipline are equally important.

The minister also highlighted the broader economic context, pointing to strong consumer activity during the recent festive season. She said the rise in retail sales reflects growing confidence and resilience in the economy. According to her, ongoing tax reforms under the GST framework have contributed to greater transparency, improved revenue collection, and more consistent processes across states.

The building is equipped with several modern features with sustainability and public convenience in focus. Energy-efficient lighting, provisions for solar power, and rainwater harvesting have been integrated into the structure. Additionally, dedicated public interaction zones, including a taxpayer service lounge, have been set up to make visits more organised and user-friendly.

Officials expressed confidence that the new facility will enhance service delivery and strengthen engagement with businesses and citizens in the region. With operations now consolidated, the CGST Bhawan is expected to serve as a key administrative hub supporting smoother tax governance in Ghaziabad and surrounding districts.
