Elections for 17 municipal councils in Pune district will be held on December 2, according to the Maharashtra State Election Commission.
Addressing a press conference, Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi said, “Elections have been announced for 17 municipal councils in Pune district. The total number of voters across these councils is 6.34 lakh, and there will be 730 polling booths.”
The councils going to polls include Alandi, Baramati, Bhor, Chakan, Daund, Phursungi–Uruli Devachi, Indapur, Jejuri, Junnar, Lonavala, Malegaon, Manchar, Rajgurunagar, Saswad, Shirur, Talegaon Dabhade and Vadgaon.
Among them, Baramati has the highest number of registered voters at about 1.01 lakh, followed by Talegaon Dabhade (64,679), Daund (around 50,000), and Lonavala (48,363).
Baramati is expected to draw special attention as rival groups of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar, may compete directly for control of the council.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi said preparations are complete and the model code of conduct will be strictly followed.
The elections will decide the leadership for local civic bodies that manage essential services like water supply, roads, sanitation, and town planning in these areas.
