Louisville UPS Cargo Plane Crash Claims 12 Lives

Engine detachment sparks investigation. UPS hub closure causes shipping delays

A UPS cargo plane crashed near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on 4 November, killing at least 12 people, including one child. The McDonnell Douglas MD‑11F aircraft suffered an engine separation shortly after takeoff, causing the left wing to catch fire before it crashed into an industrial area. Several people on the ground were also injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA have launched an investigation, recovering both flight recorders. Officials are focusing on why the engine detached and the wing ignited so soon after takeoff.

UPS has temporarily suspended operations at its Louisville hub, creating delays across its global delivery network. Recovery and cleanup at the crash site are ongoing, with authorities warning the death toll and impact details may rise as investigations continue.
