HAL, GE seal $1 billion Tejas engine deal

Agreement to accelerate HAL’s Tejas output and reinforce IAF squadrons

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a deal worth over $1 billion with GE Aerospace to buy 113 jet engines for India’s Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets.

The engines will be delivered between 2027 and 2032 and are expected to boost Tejas production, which had faced delays due to engine shortages and testing issues.

HAL officials said 11 Tejas aircraft are ready, including four already equipped with GE engines. The company aims to deliver 10 fighters to the Indian Air Force by March next year.

The agreement also deepens defence cooperation between India and the U.S., reflecting growing trust and technology sharing between the two countries.
