NDA secures landslide victory in Bihar Assembly polls

A record voter turnout of 67%, the highest in Bihar’s electoral history, reflecting strong participation across both urban and rural areas

Bihar’s voters delivered a decisive mandate in the 2025 Assembly elections, handing a sweeping victory to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). With leads on 204 of 243 seats, the alliance is set to continue in power, with Nitish Kumar most likely to retain the Chief Minister’s post.

The state witnessed a record voter turnout of 67%, the highest in Bihar’s electoral history, reflecting strong participation across urban and rural areas.

The NDA’s win was driven by BJP (leading on 95 seats), JD(U) (84 seats), and smaller allies. Analysts say the “double‑engine” narrative of state and central governance, along with a focus on stability, resonated with voters.

The opposition RJD-led Mahagathbandhan struggled, with leads limited to the low 30s. High-profile leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav from Raghopur, trailed NDA candidates. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) failed to make an impact.

Key constituency results include Mokama, where JD(U)’s Anant Kumar Singh retained his seat with over 91,000 votes; Alinagar, where BJP’s Maithili Thakur led comfortably; Kalyanpur, won by JD(U)’s Maheshwar Hazari; and Chapra, where BJP’s Chhoti Kumari defeated RJD’s Khesari Lal Yadav.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the NDA’s victory, calling it a “resounding endorsement of the government’s work and the double‑engine development model.” PM Modi responded, thanking the people of Bihar for their trust and promising to continue supporting the state’s growth and governance initiatives.

Following the announcement of results, celebrations erupted across NDA strongholds, with party workers waving flags, bursting crackers, and dancing in the streets.
