Fresh off the NDA’s strong win in the Bihar assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shifted attention to the next major political battleground, West Bengal. Addressing party workers, he said the Bihar mandate was a vote for development and good governance, and added that the BJP is “fully prepared” to take on the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal.
Modi said the party would work to “end jungle raj” in West Bengal, signalling an aggressive start to the 2026 assembly campaign. He also criticised opposition parties, saying their politics was hurting the country and that the BJP’s model of governance had been endorsed again by the people of Bihar.
The Trinamool Congress responded sharply, accusing Modi of making empty claims and insisting that Bengal would once again reject the BJP. The party said the state’s voters stand firmly with the TMC and its leadership, and that no external narrative would influence Bengal’s political landscape.
With Bihar behind them and West Bengal ahead, both parties have begun sharpening their messaging, setting the stage for a high-voltage contest over the next few months.
