Congress candidate V. Naveen Yadav has won the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election in Hyderabad with a clear margin of around 24,700 votes, defeating BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath. The result marks a significant shift in a constituency long considered a stronghold of the BRS.
Naveen Yadav secured close to 99,000 votes, while Sunitha Gopinath received around 74,000. The win reflects a strong swing toward the Congress, with the party crossing 50% of the total votes polled.
The bypoll was necessitated after the passing of former MLA Maganti Gopinath earlier this year. The contest saw a high-energy campaign, with Congress banking on Naveen Yadav’s grassroots connect, his familiarity with local issues, and growing support among minority and urban voters.
Voter trends indicated a clear consolidation of the minority vote in favour of Congress, alongside solid backing from resident welfare communities and younger voters. The margin also suggests dissatisfaction with the BRS’ recent performance in urban areas.
The BJP finished a distant third, losing its deposit, signalling limited traction for the party in this constituency.
For Congress, the victory is being seen as an important boost to its position in Telangana’s capital region and a reaffirmation of the ruling party’s policies. Party leaders called the result a sign of growing voter confidence and a reflection of effective campaigning.
The win strengthens Congress’ hold over Hyderabad’s key urban pockets and offers momentum ahead of future electoral battles in the state.
