India, Canada focus on critical minerals

Ministers meet in New Delhi to strengthen trade, green energy, and aerospace collaboration

India and Canada are working to strengthen their economic and strategic ties, focusing on critical minerals, clean energy, and aerospace trade. The 7th Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) was held in New Delhi, where India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu discussed ways to expand cooperation.

Bilateral trade between the two nations reached US$23.66 billion in 2024, with goods trade up 10% from the previous year. Both countries are also increasing investments, with Canadian companies growing in India and Indian firms expanding in Canada, creating jobs in both nations.

The ministers agreed to build long-term supply chains for critical minerals, strengthen green energy projects, and deepen collaboration in aerospace and dual-use technologies. They also highlighted the importance of resilient supply chains for agriculture and stronger people-to-people connections.

Both sides committed to continue discussions with business leaders next year to maintain momentum and ensure a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership.
