Bihar readies Nitish Kumar for tenth term as CM

Gandhi Maidan sealed off ahead of swearing-in event. PM Modi, Amit Shah and other top leaders expected to attend

Bihar is preparing for a major political event as Nitish Kumar gets ready to take oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time on November 20. After the NDA secured a clear edge in the assembly elections, the alliance has moved quickly to complete formalities and prepare for the new government.

Gandhi Maidan in Patna, the venue for the oath-taking, has been closed to the public from November 17 to 20 to allow security arrangements and stage preparations. Workers are installing barricades, officials are coordinating seating plans, and multiple security agencies are inspecting the ground. A large gathering is expected, as the event will be attended by several top national leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be present at the ceremony, along with Home Minister Amit Shah. Senior BJP leaders, Union ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states are also expected to attend. From the state, top JD(U) and BJP leaders, newly elected MLAs, and representatives of allied parties will be present. The Governor of Bihar will administer the oath to Nitish Kumar and his new cabinet.

Before the new government takes charge, the outgoing cabinet is holding its final meeting to clear remaining files and conclude its term. Following this, Nitish Kumar and the ministers will submit their resignations to the Governor, a necessary step before the formation of the next government.

Inside the NDA, discussions on cabinet allocation have gained momentum. The alliance is working on a formula that links ministerial seats to each party’s strength in the assembly. Under this plan, LJP (Ram Vilas) is expected to get three berths, while smaller allies may receive one each. The remaining positions—likely totalling around 30 to 31—will be divided between JD(U) and BJP. The final list of ministers is expected to be ready before the swearing-in.
