External Affairs Minister stands firm on terror at SCO

Jaishankar stresses zero tolerance for terror, proposes SCO reforms, and highlights economic diversification for member nations

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Moscow, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed that the world must have zero tolerance for terrorism. He said there should be no justification, no excuses, and no looking away when it comes to terror attacks.

Jaishankar emphasized that India will continue to protect its people and take action against threats. He reminded the SCO that it was created to fight terrorism, separatism, and extremism, and the related unseen dangers that are on the rise.

He also suggested reforms within the SCO, including modernising its functioning and making English an official working language, in addition to Russian and Chinese.

On the economic side, Jaishankar pointed out that the global economy is uncertain, with unstable supply chains and unpredictable demand. He urged SCO countries to diversify trade and economic links so no nation depends too much on a few partners. He also stressed that new economic cooperation should be fair and transparent.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties, mentioning India’s shared civilisational roots with other SCO nations. He said exchanges between artists, scholars, and sportspeople can help strengthen understanding.
