Absconding husband arrested in Twisha case probe

Samarth Singh appears before Jabalpur court, subsequently taken into police custody

The investigation into Twisha Sharma death case has intensified after disciplinary and legal actions involving her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, who had been absconding since the incident in Bhopal. The case, which has drawn significant attention due to allegations of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide, has now entered a more critical phase with both court proceedings and bar council action moving simultaneously.

The Bar Council of India has suspended Samarth Singh from practicing law, citing serious allegations linked to the case and his alleged non-cooperation with investigating authorities. The suspension comes amid growing scrutiny over his conduct after Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area earlier this month.

Singh, who had been on the run for nearly 10 days, later appeared before the Jabalpur District Court after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. However, instead of granting relief, the court directed him to surrender before the appropriate jurisdictional court handling the investigation, effectively continuing legal proceedings against him.

Following this, law enforcement officials took Singh into custody from the court premises. He is expected to be transferred to Bhopal police for detailed interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are examining both forensic evidence and circumstantial material connected to the case.

Twisha Sharma’s death has triggered allegations from her family, who have accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental cruelty. The accused side has disputed these claims and raised counter-allegations, while investigators continue to collect statements and evidence to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

With the suspension order from the BCI and Singh now in custody, the case is moving into a more decisive stage of investigation, with police expected to intensify questioning and verify key evidence.
