Amit Shah launches digital platform for land ports

'VINIMAY' system launched to streamline trade operations and enhance digital border management

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), named ‘VINIMAY’, a new digital platform designed to modernise the management of India’s land ports and streamline cross-border trade and passenger movement.

The platform was inaugurated as part of the government’s broader push towards digital governance and efficient border infrastructure. VINIMAY will be implemented across land ports operated by the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), including the strategically important Petrapole Integrated Check Post in West Bengal, India’s largest land port handling trade with Bangladesh.

According to officials, the digital system will integrate multiple services onto a single platform, enabling faster processing of cargo, vehicles, travellers and documentation. The initiative is expected to reduce paperwork, improve transparency and enhance coordination among various agencies operating at border checkpoints.

Speaking at the launch, Shah said the platform represents a major step towards digital border management and aligns with the government’s vision of leveraging technology to improve public services and trade facilitation. He noted that efficient border infrastructure plays a critical role in strengthening economic growth, regional connectivity and national security.

The VINIMAY platform will allow stakeholders, including traders, transport operators and government agencies, to access services online, track applications and receive real-time updates. Officials believe the system will significantly reduce processing time and improve the overall ease of doing business at land ports.

Petrapole, located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, handles a substantial share of India’s trade with Bangladesh and serves as one of the country’s busiest land border crossings. The digital upgrade is expected to benefit thousands of traders and transporters who use the route regularly.
