The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a landslide victory in the Gujarat civic elections, winning control of all 15 municipal corporations across the state. The results underline the party’s continued dominance in one of its strongest political bases and reaffirm its urban electoral strength.
According to the results reported from multiple counting centres, the BJP not only secured a clean sweep of all major municipal bodies but also crossed the 50 percent vote share mark in each corporation. This performance highlights a broad-based mandate in urban Gujarat, including major cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.
In Ahmedabad, the state’s largest civic body, the BJP won a commanding majority, taking 146 out of 192 seats, while the Congress was reduced to a small presence. Similar patterns were seen across other corporations, where the BJP maintained a strong lead over opposition parties.
One of the most notable developments came from Surat, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a sharp decline in its influence. After emerging as a challenger in the previous election cycle, AAP’s presence was significantly reduced, winning only a handful of seats this time. Reports indicate that the party’s earlier gains in the city were largely reversed, weakening its position as an urban alternative in Gujarat politics.
The Congress party, meanwhile, continued to struggle to regain relevance in urban local bodies, failing to mount a significant challenge in most corporations.
