FWICE withdraws order against Ranveer Singh

Film workers' body backs down after legal challenge, easing tensions in the Don 3 controversy

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has withdrawn its non-cooperation directive against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, marking a major development in the ongoing dispute surrounding his exit from the upcoming film Don 3.

The controversy began after Ranveer reportedly stepped away from Don 3, a project backed by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani. Following complaints from the film’s producers, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, alleging that his withdrawal had caused significant losses to the production. Reports suggested that around ₹45 crore had already been spent on pre-production activities before his exit.

The dispute escalated when Ranveer’s legal team sent a notice to FWICE, challenging the action taken against him. The move shifted the matter from an industry disagreement to a legal confrontation.

However, following mediation efforts by the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), the Producers Guild of India and the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), FWICE decided to revoke its directive with immediate effect. The organisation said the decision was taken in the larger interest of maintaining harmony within the film industry.

FWICE president B.N. Tiwari said the federation never intended to target or damage the career of a leading actor. He added that the organisation would respond to Ranveer’s legal notice through appropriate legal channels and stressed that the matter should be resolved amicably.

Despite the withdrawal of the directive, the Don 3 issue has not been fully resolved. Industry bodies are expected to hold further discussions with all parties involved to find a long-term solution.
