Iran rules out direct US talks in Pakistan

Tehran says any contact with Washington will remain indirect as efforts continue to calm tensions in West Asia

Iran has said it will not hold direct talks with the United States during ongoing diplomatic efforts in Pakistan, making it clear that any communication with Washington will take place only through mediators.

The statement comes as regional and global powers push for talks to reduce tensions in West Asia following recent conflict involving Iran, Israel and the US. Pakistan has emerged as an important channel for diplomacy, with officials trying to keep communication open between the two sides.

Iranian representatives said their visit to Pakistan is focused on discussing the regional situation and exploring ways to restore stability. They also dismissed reports suggesting face-to-face meetings with American officials.

The United States is reportedly using backchannel diplomacy in an attempt to restart dialogue with Tehran. However, deep mistrust between the two countries continues to stand in the way of direct engagement.

The crisis has also created concern in global markets, especially over oil supplies. Any instability near the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for crude oil, can affect fuel prices worldwide.
