Russian missiles pound Kyiv again, 11 killed

Overnight strikes kill civilians and damage homes across Ukrainian capital

Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight, killing at least eleven people and injuring several others in one of the latest assaults on the city. The strikes caused widespread damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure, leaving rescue teams racing against time to search for survivors.

Air raid sirens sounded across Kyiv as missiles and drones struck multiple locations before dawn. Explosions lit up the night sky, while residents sought safety in underground metro stations and bomb shelters. Several apartment blocks were damaged, vehicles caught fire and debris was scattered across neighbourhoods.

Emergency workers spent hours clearing rubble and extinguishing fires, with authorities warning that the number of casualties could rise as search operations continued. Hospitals across the capital treated dozens of people injured in the attacks, including children.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, calling them another example of Russia targeting civilians. He once again appealed to Ukraine’s allies to strengthen the country’s air defence capabilities, saying additional support was vital to protect lives.

Russia said the attacks were aimed at military-related targets and were carried out in response to recent Ukrainian strikes inside Russian territory. Ukrainian officials, however, said the bombardment mainly hit civilian areas, causing significant destruction to homes and public infrastructure.

The latest attack highlights the continuing intensity of the war, with both countries increasing long-range strikes in recent months. While Ukraine has expanded drone attacks on military and energy targets inside Russia, Moscow has continued launching large-scale missile and drone barrages on Ukrainian cities.
