The Pitt, Hacks dominate 2026 Emmy nominations

Major snubs and fresh contenders spice up this year's television awards race

The race for the 2026 Emmy Awards has begun, with The Pitt and Hacks leading this year’s nominations and setting the stage for a closely watched awards season. While several favourites secured multiple nods, a number of surprising omissions have also become the biggest talking points.

Medical drama The Pitt emerged as the most nominated series with 25 nominations, followed closely by comedy hit Hacks, which earned 24. Apple TV+ also enjoyed a strong showing, with Widow’s Bay and Pluribus receiving multiple nominations across major categories.

Several popular stars returned to the Emmy race. Noah Wyle was recognised for his performance in The Pitt, while Jean Smart earned another nomination for Hacks. Actors including Zendaya, Gary Oldman, Mark Ruffalo, Keri Russell, and Carrie Coon also featured among this year’s nominees.

However, the nominations also left fans disappointed. Jeremy Allen White missed out on an acting nomination despite the continued success of The Bear. Hit shows such as Stranger Things and Euphoria were also among the biggest surprises, receiving fewer major nominations than many had expected.

The list reflects how television continues to evolve, with newer series gaining recognition while some long-established favourites lose ground. Streaming platforms once again dominated the nominations, highlighting the growing competition among studios producing premium content.

With breakout shows competing against established favourites and several unexpected snubs already generating debate, the competition remains wide open.

The winners will be announced at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards later this year.
