Trump–Xi to meet in Beijing amid global crises

Iran war, Taiwan tensions and oil route risks dominate talks

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet in Beijing for high-level talks as global tensions rise sharply.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of the ongoing Iran conflict, which has disrupted global oil supply chains and raised fears over the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for international energy shipments. Rising crude prices and market uncertainty have added urgency to the discussions.

A major focus is expected to be the Middle East situation, with Washington seeking greater Chinese influence to help stabilise tensions involving Iran. China, which depends heavily on oil imports through the Gulf, also has a strong interest in preventing further escalation.

Taiwan is another sensitive issue on the agenda. While China claims the island as part of its territory, the US continues to support Taiwan’s self-governance, making it one of the most contested points in their relationship.

Trade and technology restrictions will also be discussed, with ongoing disputes over semiconductor exports and economic barriers continuing to strain ties between the two countries.

The meeting is being closely watched worldwide, as the US and China remain central to global trade, energy stability and geopolitical balance during a period of overlapping international crises.
