Pakistan’s attempt to mediate between the United States and Iran has hit a major roadblock, as efforts to arrange talks between the two sides have failed to move forward. The initiative was aimed at reducing tensions and exploring the possibility of a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
According to reports, Iran declined to participate in proposed discussions in Islamabad and rejected the terms put forward by the United States, calling them unacceptable. This decision has effectively stalled the mediation process and highlighted the deep divide between the two countries.
Pakistan had stepped in as a neutral party, offering to host talks and facilitate dialogue. The move was seen as an effort to prevent further escalation in the region. However, the strong differences in positions have made it difficult to bring both sides to the negotiating table.
Iran is believed to be seeking significant concessions, including security assurances and changes in the U.S. approach in the region. On the other hand, the United States has been pushing for immediate steps to reduce tensions and move toward a ceasefire. These opposing demands have made progress unlikely.
Despite reports suggesting the effort has collapsed, Pakistani officials have denied that mediation has completely failed. They maintain that diplomatic channels remain open and that they are still willing to support any initiative that could lead to dialogue.
Meanwhile, other countries are exploring alternative ways to revive talks, possibly by hosting discussions in different locations. However, with both sides holding firm to their positions, there is little sign of an immediate breakthrough.
