The 2026 Met Gala in New York was once again a night of high fashion and global glamour, with celebrities arriving in outfits that treated clothing more like art than traditional red-carpet wear. This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” inspired some of the most creative and dramatic looks seen in recent years.
Global icons like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Cardi B stood out with bold couture designs featuring sculptural shapes, striking silhouettes, and intricate detailing. Each look leaned heavily into creativity, with designers pushing boundaries to turn outfits into wearable art pieces.
Indian celebrities also made a strong impression on the international stage. Filmmaker Karan Johar made a memorable appearance in a richly detailed Manish Malhotra outfit inspired by the works of Raja Ravi Varma. His look blended Indian artistic heritage with modern couture styling, complete with intricate embroidery and a flowing cape.
Businesswoman Isha Ambani drew attention in a sculptural Gaurav Gupta ensemble that reimagined the sari in a contemporary, high-fashion form. Her look, paired with statement jewellery, highlighted Indian craftsmanship in a global spotlight while staying true to the theme of artistic expression.
Other Indian and South Asian names also featured prominently on the guest list, including Natasha Poonawalla, Ananya Birla, and Princess Gauravi Kumari of Jaipur. Each brought their own interpretation of the theme, often mixing traditional influences with experimental fashion elements.
Across the red carpet, there was a clear focus on storytelling through clothing. Designers and celebrities used fabrics, structure, and detail to reflect culture, identity, and creativity in new ways.
The strong presence of Indian celebrities alongside Hollywood and global stars reinforced the Met Gala’s growing international identity.
