Yogi Adityanath expands UP cabinet

BJP focuses on caste balance and regional outreach ahead of 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expanded his cabinet on Sunday by inducting six new ministers in a move seen as politically significant ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in Lucknow in the presence of Governor Anandiben Patel, senior BJP leaders and government officials. The expansion included a mix of experienced politicians and leaders representing different social groups and regions across the state.

Among the key faces inducted were former Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary and former Samajwadi Party leader Manoj Kumar Pandey. Other leaders who took oath included Krishna Paswan, Surendra Diler, Hansraj Vishwakarma and Kailash Rajput.

Political observers say the reshuffle reflects the BJP’s attempt to strengthen its social outreach by giving representation to OBC, Dalit and upper-caste communities. The move is also being viewed as part of the party’s preparations for future electoral contests in the politically crucial state.

The induction of Manoj Kumar Pandey has especially drawn attention because of his earlier association with the Samajwadi Party. Analysts believe his inclusion signals BJP’s continued efforts to attract influential opposition leaders and expand its voter base.

Bhupendra Chaudhary’s return to the cabinet is also considered important for the party’s outreach in western Uttar Pradesh, particularly among Jat voters.

Supporters gathered outside the venue to welcome the newly inducted ministers, while BJP leaders described the expansion as an effort to improve governance and strengthen regional representation within the government.
