Venezuela’s Executive Vice-President Delcy Rodriguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, investment and other key sectors.
During the visit, Rodriguez is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Indian ministers. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), discussions will focus on reviewing existing cooperation and exploring new opportunities to deepen India-Venezuela relations.
She is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior officials from sectors including foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication, and transportation. The visit reflects growing engagement between the two countries amid efforts to expand economic and strategic cooperation.
Energy is expected to be a major focus of the discussions. India has significantly increased imports of Venezuelan crude oil in recent months following the easing of some international restrictions on Venezuela’s oil sector. Both sides are expected to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in hydrocarbons, refining and energy security.
Apart from energy, talks are likely to cover pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, digital technology, transportation and renewable energy. Officials from both countries are expected to discuss measures to boost trade and investment and encourage greater business-to-business engagement.
Rodriguez is also expected to interact with representatives of India’s energy industry during her stay. Venezuela, which holds some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, sees India as an important partner in Asia, while India views Venezuela as a key source for diversifying its energy imports.
