DK Shivakumar sworn in as Karnataka CM

G. Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister, while ministers from across Karnataka joined the new cabinet

Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3 at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. The swearing-in marked a significant leadership transition in the state as Shivakumar succeeded Siddaramaiah under the Congress party’s power-sharing arrangement.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shivakumar and members of the new cabinet. The event was attended by senior Congress leaders, legislators, party workers and invited guests. Several supporters gathered at the venue to witness the ceremony and celebrate Shivakumar’s elevation to the state’s top post.

G. Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister, while a group of ministers representing different regions and communities of Karnataka were also inducted into the cabinet. Congress leaders said the composition of the ministry reflects the party’s effort to ensure regional balance, social representation and administrative experience.

According to reports, Shivakumar visited the Kanteerava Stadium memorial of former Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa and paid tributes to several prominent leaders before the swearing-in ceremony. He also sought blessings from religious leaders and senior party figures ahead of taking office.

In his first remarks as Chief Minister, Shivakumar thanked Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Siddaramaiah, party workers and the people of Karnataka for their trust and support. He pledged to continue the government’s welfare guarantees, strengthen infrastructure, attract investments and create employment opportunities for the state’s youth.

The leadership transition follows months of discussions within the Congress regarding the chief ministerial post. Shivakumar, who played a key role in the party’s Assembly election victory and served as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, is widely regarded as one of the Congress party’s most influential leaders in the state.

Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah congratulated Shivakumar and expressed confidence that the new administration would continue implementing the party’s commitments. Congress leaders described the transition as smooth and in accordance with the party’s internal understanding.
