PM Modi to attend G7, visit France and Slovakia

Six-day Europe tour to boost strategic and economic ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a six-day visit to France and Slovakia from June 13 to 18, during which he will attend the G7 Summit and hold high-level talks with leaders of both countries. The visit is expected to further strengthen India’s diplomatic, economic and strategic ties with Europe.

The first leg of the visit will take the Prime Minister to France, where he will participate in the G7 Summit being held in Évian at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Although India is not a member of the G7 grouping, it has been regularly invited to participate in recent summits as a key global partner and one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

During the summit, Modi is expected to engage with leaders of the G7 nations and other invited countries on major global issues, including economic growth, energy security, climate change, artificial intelligence, global supply chains and geopolitical developments. The meetings will also provide an opportunity for bilateral discussions with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

India and France share a long-standing strategic partnership covering defence, space, nuclear energy, trade, technology and maritime cooperation. Officials expect discussions to focus on expanding collaboration in advanced technologies, defence manufacturing, clean energy and innovation.

Following the France visit, Modi will travel to Slovakia, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Central European nation in several decades. The visit is being viewed as an important step in deepening India’s engagement with Central and Eastern Europe.

In Slovakia, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold talks with the country’s top leadership on trade, investment, defence cooperation, technology, mobility and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides are expected to explore new opportunities for collaboration in manufacturing, innovation and emerging technologies.
