India has strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations, accusing it of promoting the so-called “Fitna al-Hindustan” narrative and using misinformation campaigns to spread divisive and extremist propaganda.
Speaking at a United Nations forum, India’s representative described the narrative as a state-sponsored disinformation effort designed to distort facts, incite tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region. New Delhi asserted that the campaign seeks to create a false perception about developments within India while attempting to legitimise extremist messaging.
According to Indian officials, the “Fitna al-Hindustan” narrative has been circulated through various online platforms and propaganda channels. India argued that such campaigns are intended to fuel communal discord and encourage radicalisation by presenting misleading accounts of social and political developments.
The Indian delegation said Pakistan has repeatedly used international platforms to raise issues based on what it described as inaccurate and politically motivated claims. India maintained that attempts to interfere in its internal affairs through misinformation and propaganda would not succeed.
During its intervention, India also highlighted concerns about the use of digital platforms by extremist groups and supporters to amplify false narratives. Officials stressed the importance of combating disinformation and preventing the misuse of technology for the spread of hate speech and radical ideologies.
The remarks come amid continuing diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours, with both countries frequently exchanging criticism on issues related to security, terrorism and regional stability. India’s statement at the UN reflects its broader effort to challenge narratives that it believes are aimed at damaging its international image.
Pakistan has not accepted India’s allegations and has continued to raise concerns regarding issues it considers relevant to regional affairs. The differences between the two countries remain a recurring feature of discussions at international forums.
