EAM Jaishankar, Qatar PM discuss regional security

High-level meeting strengthens India-Qatar partnership across key sectors and regional issues

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Qatar Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha on Sunday to review the growing partnership between the two countries and discuss key regional developments.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology and people-to-people ties. Both sides also exchanged views on recent developments in West Asia and stressed the need for dialogue and stability in the region.

Jaishankar described the discussions as warm and productive, saying India values its close partnership with Qatar. He said both countries remain committed to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and working together on regional and global issues.

The visit comes as India and Qatar continue to deepen their strategic relationship. Over the past few years, the two countries have expanded cooperation in energy, infrastructure, trade and investment. Qatar remains one of India’s key energy suppliers, while the large Indian community in the Gulf nation continues to play an important role in strengthening bilateral ties.

Regional security also featured prominently during the talks. With tensions continuing in parts of West Asia, both leaders discussed the importance of maintaining peace, stability and diplomatic engagement. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

Jaishankar also thanked the Qatari leadership for its continued support for the Indian community living and working in the country. The welfare of Indian nationals remains an important aspect of relations between the two nations.

The meeting reflects the regular high-level engagement between India and Qatar, with both sides seeking to further strengthen political, economic and strategic cooperation. Officials believe the discussions will help build on the momentum created by recent exchanges between the two countries.
