Trump shared an edited image of himself with Meloni carrying the caption, “Restraining order needed.” While he did not explain the post, many saw it as another swipe at the Italian leader, reviving a disagreement that began after the recent G7 summit.
The row started when Trump claimed Meloni had repeatedly asked to take a photograph with him during the G7 meeting. He later said he agreed only because he “felt sorry” for her. Meloni strongly denied the claim, calling it untrue and expressing disappointment over Trump’s remarks.
The latest social media post has once again put the spotlight on the strained relationship between the two leaders, who were once considered close political allies. Their differences have also widened over foreign policy, particularly after Italy refused to allow the United States to use its military bases for operations linked to Iran. Italian officials clarified that the country only provided routine logistical support and was not directly involved.
