US President Donald Trump has claimed that American military strikes on Iran have killed several of the country’s top military leaders, intensifying an already volatile conflict in the Middle East. In a series of remarks, Trump also made a controversial claim that Mojtaba Khamenei, the influential son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was “90% gone”, without providing evidence or clarifying whether he was referring to his health, influence or status.
Trump said the US attacks had significantly weakened Iran’s military command structure and warned that further action would follow if Tehran continued its military response. He described the strikes as necessary to protect American interests and allies in the region.
Iran has not confirmed Trump’s claims regarding the deaths of senior leaders or Mojtaba Khamenei. Officials in Tehran condemned the US strikes as a violation of international law and vowed to retaliate. The government maintained that it would respond at a time and place of its choosing.
The latest developments come as fighting between the two countries enters a dangerous new phase. The US has carried out multiple rounds of strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Global leaders have appealed for restraint, warning that continued escalation could threaten regional stability, disrupt energy supplies and affect the global economy. The Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil exports, remains under close watch as tensions continue to rise.
