Vote counting underway in Hyderabad; Congress ahead as early trends show a close contest

Vote counting for the Jubilee Hills by-election in Hyderabad began on Friday morning at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Stadium in Yousufguda. Officials have set up 42 tables to ensure the process runs smoothly under tight security.

After the initial five rounds of counting, the Congress candidate is leading with 50,849 votes. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has 37,990 votes, while the BJP has received 8,569 votes so far.

The constituency has a total of 4,01,365 registered voters, including 2,08,561 men, 1,92,779 women, and 25 voters in the “others” category. So far, 1,94,631 votes have been cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 48.49%. This includes 99,771 male voters, 94,855 female voters, 5 “others,” and 101 postal ballots.

This by-election was held following the passing of the previous MLA, Maganti Gopinath of the BRS. A total of 58 candidates were in the fray, making the contest highly competitive.

Early trends suggest that Congress has a strong chance of winning the seat, although the final outcome will depend on the remaining rounds of counting.
