Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar has been re-elected as the party’s legislature leader by newly elected MLAs, paving the way for his 10th term as Bihar Chief Minister. He is set to take oath on 20 November in Patna.
The BJP, which is the NDA’s ally in Bihar, also held its legislature party meeting and decided to retain Samrat Chaudhary as leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader. Both are expected to continue in their roles as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government.
These leadership decisions come ahead of a meeting of NDA partners, where Nitish Kumar is likely to be formally confirmed as the alliance’s state leader. Analysts say this continuity reflects a focus on stability and experience in the state’s administration.
The National Democratic Alliance secured a decisive victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 out of 243 seats. JD(U) won 79 seats, while the BJP bagged 127 seats, ensuring a strong majority for the alliance to form the government.
The election results mark another chapter in Nitish Kumar’s long political career, which spans over four decades. His continued leadership and the retention of the BJP deputies signal a smooth transition into the new term, with both parties committed to working together to implement their agenda for development and governance.
With the swearing-in ceremony in Patna, Bihar is set for a new term under the NDA, maintaining the existing leadership team to continue ongoing projects and strengthen the state’s political and administrative framework.
