The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has ordered an inquiry into allegations that cash offerings made by devotees at the Badrinath temple were stolen. The decision comes after a video circulating on social media sparked concern and prompted demands for a thorough investigation.
The controversy began when a viral video appeared to show irregularities in the handling of donations at the temple. The footage quickly drew public attention, with devotees and social media users questioning whether offerings placed in the donation box were being properly accounted for.
Responding to the allegations, the temple committee announced that an internal inquiry has been initiated to establish the facts. Officials said the investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether there was any theft or procedural lapse in handling donations.
The committee has assured devotees that appropriate action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found. It also appealed to the public not to draw conclusions until the inquiry is completed, stressing that the investigation would be conducted fairly and transparently.
Temple authorities said maintaining the trust of devotees remains their highest priority. They added that the shrine follows established procedures for collecting, counting and managing donations, and any deviation from these norms would be dealt with strictly.
The issue has gained wider attention because it comes soon after similar allegations relating to temple donations surfaced elsewhere, raising concerns about the security and management of offerings at major religious institutions.
Officials believe the inquiry will help clarify whether the allegations have any basis and identify any gaps in the existing system. If required, additional safeguards and monitoring mechanisms could be introduced to improve transparency in handling donations.
