DRDO and IAF tests RudraM-II missile

India validates indigenous missile's precision strike capabilities during successful trial

India has achieved a significant milestone in defence technology with the successful flight test of the indigenous RudraM-II air-to-surface missile. The test was conducted jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The missile was launched from a Su-30MKI fighter aircraft and successfully hit its intended target, meeting all mission objectives. Conducted under challenging release conditions, the trial validated the missile’s performance and the reliability of its key onboard systems. The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the missile demonstrated high accuracy and successfully met all planned performance parameters. Flight data was tracked and analysed using advanced monitoring systems deployed at the test range, confirming the missile’s effectiveness and readiness for future operational use.

RudraM-II is a domestically developed air-to-surface missile designed to engage enemy radar stations, air defence networks and other strategic ground targets. The missile is expected to enhance the IAF’s ability to carry out Suppression and Destruction of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD/DEAD) missions, a crucial requirement in modern combat operations.

The successful test is also a major boost to India’s efforts to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing. Developed within the country, RudraM-II will help reduce dependence on imported weapon systems while strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the defence research agency, the IAF and industry partners involved in the project. He said the achievement would further strengthen India’s defence preparedness and indigenous defence ecosystem. DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat also praised the teams for successfully demonstrating the missile’s advanced capabilities.
