Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian community in Melbourne during his visit to Australia, highlighting India’s rapid progress in technology, innovation and global partnerships while describing the relationship between India and Australia as reaching “great heights.”
Speaking to a packed gathering of members of the Indian diaspora, Modi thanked the community for acting as a strong bridge between the two countries. He said Indians living overseas have played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties through their contributions across business, education, research and culture.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s growing ambitions in the space sector, announcing that the country is preparing to establish its own space station in the coming years. He said India’s space programme has evolved rapidly, from successful lunar and Mars missions to expanding commercial opportunities and international collaborations.
Highlighting the country’s scientific achievements, Modi said India is investing heavily in advanced technologies, innovation and research to emerge as a global leader in sectors such as space, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and clean energy. He added that these initiatives are creating new opportunities for young people and businesses alike.
Modi noted that India has become one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, driven by digital transformation, infrastructure development and reforms aimed at boosting investment and manufacturing. He said the government’s focus remains on building a developed India while expanding partnerships with countries around the world.
The Prime Minister also underlined the growing strategic partnership between India and Australia, describing cooperation in trade, education, defence, clean energy and critical minerals as key pillars of the relationship. He expressed confidence that collaboration between the two nations would continue to deepen in the years ahead.
Addressing the diaspora, Modi encouraged them to remain connected with their roots while serving as ambassadors of India’s values and achievements abroad. He praised their success in Australia and said their accomplishments have enhanced India’s global image.
