Salman’s Kala Hiran plea deferred till July 6

Producer plans massive release despite ongoing legal challenge from actor

Actor Salman Khan’s legal battle over the upcoming film Kala Hiran has taken a fresh turn, with the Bombay High Court postponing the hearing on his plea until July 6. The actor has sought to restrain the film’s release, alleging that it unfairly links him to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.

The petition was heard briefly before the court deferred the matter, allowing both sides additional time to present their arguments. Until a final decision is taken, uncertainty remains over the film’s release schedule.

The controversy centres on the film’s title and promotional material. Salman has argued that the project could damage his reputation by drawing attention to a case that has remained associated with him for decades. His legal team has urged the court to prevent the filmmakers from using content that allegedly creates a connection with the actor.

The producers, however, have strongly opposed the plea. They maintain that Kala Hiran is a fictional story and does not depict Salman Khan or directly refer to him. According to the filmmakers, the title is inspired by the blackbuck, commonly known as “kala hiran” in Hindi, and is not intended to target any individual.

The case has generated significant attention because of Salman’s long association with the blackbuck poaching case, which dates back to the filming of Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Rajasthan in 1998. While the legal proceedings surrounding that case have continued over the years, the actor’s latest petition focuses solely on protecting his image from what he believes is an unfair association through the film.

Despite the ongoing legal dispute, producer Raju Chadha has expressed confidence that the film will reach audiences as planned. He said preparations for release are continuing and claimed the makers are aiming for a worldwide launch across nearly 8,000 screens, making it one of the widest releases for a Hindi film.

The Bombay High Court is expected to hear the matter again on July 6, when it may decide whether the film can proceed towards its planned release without changes.
