Political temperatures rose in Maharashtra after senior leaders of the ruling alliance declared “Operation Tiger” a success following a fresh round of defections from the opposition camp. The developments have intensified the ongoing political battle between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT).
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed the operation as successful, suggesting that more leaders could join his faction in the coming months. The remarks came after several local-level leaders and office-bearers associated with the Shiv Sena (UBT) shifted their allegiance to the ruling camp, strengthening the position of the Shinde-led Sena.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also welcomed the developments, describing them as a sign of growing support for the ruling alliance. Leaders in the government camp argued that the defections reflected confidence in the administration’s work and its development agenda.
The latest political realignment has added to the challenges facing the opposition, particularly the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray. Opposition leaders, however, dismissed the claims of a major breakthrough and accused the ruling alliance of using political influence to weaken rival parties ahead of future electoral contests.
Maharashtra’s political landscape has remained fluid since the split in the Shiv Sena and subsequent changes in government formation. The battle for organisational strength at the grassroots level continues to be a key focus for both the ruling alliance and the opposition as they prepare for upcoming political challenges.
The phrase “Operation Tiger” has become a symbolic reference to efforts aimed at attracting leaders and workers from rival political camps. With both sides seeking to consolidate their support base, the political contest is increasingly shifting beyond legislative numbers to organisational control and local influence.
