8 dead, 24 injured in Rajasthan bus fire

Victims trapped inside burning bus after high-speed crash with truck on expressway

At least eight people were killed and 24 others injured after a passenger bus rammed into a truck and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district early on Tuesday, turning a routine journey into a devastating tragedy.

According to police, the accident occurred near Bhandarej when the bus, travelling from Udaipur to Delhi, reportedly crashed into the rear of a truck moving in the same direction. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus burst into flames within moments, trapping several passengers inside.

Panic spread as thick smoke and flames engulfed the vehicle. Passers-by and local residents rushed to help, attempting to rescue passengers before emergency teams arrived. Firefighters and police personnel reached the spot quickly and brought the blaze under control, while ambulances shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.

Officials said eight passengers died, many of them due to severe burn injuries, while 24 others sustained injuries of varying degrees. Several of the injured are undergoing treatment, and the condition of a few remains critical. Authorities fear the death toll could rise if those critically injured fail to recover.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest the bus may have been travelling at high speed before it collided with the truck, though officials are examining all possible factors, including driver fatigue and road conditions.

The accident temporarily disrupted traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway as rescue operations continued for several hours. Burnt debris from the bus was cleared before normal traffic movement resumed.
