Russia has offered to increase the supply of oil and natural gas to India during recent high-level talks in New Delhi. The discussions took place between Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on strengthening overall economic and energy ties.
During the meeting, Russia said it is ready to supply more crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India to meet its growing energy needs. This comes at a time when global energy markets are uncertain due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, especially in West Asia, which have raised concerns about supply disruptions.
India, which depends heavily on imported fuel, is looking for stable and reliable energy sources. Russia has already become one of India’s major suppliers of oil in recent years, and this new offer could further strengthen that partnership.
Apart from energy, both countries also discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, fertilisers, and technology. Russia has increased fertiliser supplies to India in recent years and expressed willingness to continue supporting the country’s demand.
The talks also included discussions on nuclear energy projects, particularly the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, which is being developed with Russian support. Both sides explored future opportunities in sectors like innovation, critical minerals, and industrial development.
Leaders from both countries reviewed the broader India-Russia relationship, including trade growth and long-term cooperation. They highlighted the importance of maintaining strong ties amid changing global conditions.
The offer to supply more oil and gas is seen as beneficial for India, as it looks to secure its energy needs and protect itself from global price fluctuations. For Russia, it helps maintain strong trade relations with a key partner.
