Uganda’s army chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has sparked controversy after posting unusual demands on social media aimed at Turkey, including a claim for $1 billion and a request for “the most beautiful woman” in the country as a wife.
In a series of posts on X, Kainerugaba suggested Uganda should receive $1 billion for its role in regional security operations, particularly in Somalia. He also warned that diplomatic relations with Turkey could be affected if his demands were not met within 30 days.
The comments quickly went viral and drew widespread criticism online, with many calling them inappropriate and damaging to Uganda’s international image.
He further suggested that Uganda could consider shutting down the Turkish embassy in Kampala if his conditions were rejected, escalating concerns over the seriousness of the statements.
Kainerugaba, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, is known for making provocative remarks on social media, which have previously triggered diplomatic unease.
The latest posts have once again put Uganda’s military leadership under scrutiny, with observers warning that such statements could strain relations with foreign partners and blur the line between personal views and official positions.
There has been no official response from the Ugandan government so far.
