West Bengal sees record 92.4% voter turnout

Massive voter participation marks historic election, despite scattered violence in final phase

West Bengal witnessed an impressive turnout of voters in the 2026 Assembly elections, with around 92.4% of eligible voters casting their votes. This is one of the highest participation levels the state has ever seen, showing strong public interest in the election.

Voting took place in two phases across all 294 constituencies. Both phases saw heavy participation, with people turning out in large numbers from early morning. Long queues were seen at many polling booths, especially in rural areas, where enthusiasm remained high throughout the day.

The high turnout reflects how seriously people in the state are taking this election. Men and women, young voters, and elderly citizens all came out to vote, highlighting the importance of the democratic process.

However, the election was not completely peaceful. There were some incidents of violence reported during the final phase of polling. In a few areas, clashes broke out between political supporters, and there were reports of stone-pelting and disruptions near polling stations. Despite this, officials said most of the voting process was carried out smoothly.

Security was tightened across sensitive areas, with central forces deployed to maintain order and ensure voters could cast their ballots safely. Election officials kept a close watch on trouble-prone regions to prevent major incidents.

Authorities also mentioned that the turnout figure is provisional and may change slightly after final verification. The counting of votes will take place soon, which will decide the outcome of the election.
