PM ties energy push to Viksit Bharat 2047 vision

Government focuses on alternative energy and resilience amid geopolitical uncertainty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed his Council of Ministers to strengthen India’s preparedness as the conflict in West Asia, involving the US and Iran, raises concerns over global energy supplies and price stability.

At a high-level meeting, the Prime Minister outlined three key priorities: improving speed and efficiency in governance, reinforcing energy security through diversification, and maintaining focus on long-term national development goals under the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.

A central focus of the discussion was energy security. The Prime Minister asked ministers to actively explore alternative and domestic energy sources to reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil and gas. He stressed the need to expand renewable energy capacity, along with other indigenous fuel options, to reduce vulnerability to global supply disruptions.

The directive comes at a time when international oil markets remain volatile due to tensions in West Asia, particularly concerns over possible disruptions in key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. India, which imports a large portion of its crude oil from the region, remains sensitive to any instability affecting supply chains.

Officials were also instructed to ensure faster implementation of government schemes and improved coordination between departments. The Prime Minister emphasised reducing delays in decision-making and ensuring that welfare programmes reach citizens more efficiently.

He further reiterated that the long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” should guide policy formulation across ministries rather than remain a broad goal statement. According to sources, multiple ministries presented updates on their respective sectors, including energy, transport, agriculture, and external affairs, focusing on mitigating risks arising from global uncertainties.

The meeting highlighted the government’s dual approach of addressing immediate geopolitical and economic risks while continuing structural reforms aimed at strengthening India’s long-term growth and resilience.
