IPL 2026 to run from March 26 to May 31

BCCI announces official dates ahead of mini-auction for next season

The countdown for IPL 2026 has officially begun. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the 19th edition of the league will run from Thursday, March 26 to Sunday, May 31, 2026. With the mini-auction just around the corner, teams now have a clear window to plan strategies, assemble squads, and get ready for cricket’s most anticipated extravaganza.

Traditionally, the season kicks off with the defending champions in action, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are expected to take centre stage. However, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru may not host the opening match due to pending safety and security clearances, leaving fans eagerly waiting for confirmation.

The final on May 31 promises to be a grand Sunday climax, wrapping up an action-packed 10-week season. With dates set, franchises can finalise travel plans, match-day logistics, and broadcasting schedules well in advance.

All eyes are now on the mini-auction, where a handful of squad slots remain up for grabs. Teams will battle to secure top talent, carefully weighing player retention and bids. The auction is expected to be a strategic chess game, with franchises planning every move to gain an edge for the new season.

Interestingly, IPL 2026 will overlap with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which also starts on March 26. While this may create scheduling challenges, it also adds excitement for cricket fans, who will witness two major T20 leagues running simultaneously.

With dates confirmed, fans, players, and franchises can start the countdown to another season full of sixes, wickets, and unforgettable moments. The full fixture list is expected to be announced soon, giving cricket lovers the complete roadmap to plan their IPL calendar.
