A devastating fire tore through a popular pub in Bangkok, killing 27 people and injuring 70 others, making it one of Thailand’s deadliest entertainment venue disasters in recent years.
The blaze broke out late at night when the pub was packed with customers enjoying the weekend. According to witnesses, a loud explosion was heard moments before flames spread rapidly through the building, leaving many people trapped inside.
“We heard an explosion and then everything was on fire,” one survivor recalled. Panic quickly spread as customers rushed towards the exits, but thick smoke and intense flames made escape difficult for many. Several people were injured while trying to flee through narrow exits.
Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene and battled the blaze for hours before bringing it under control. Rescue teams searched the damaged building through the night, recovering victims and helping the injured reach nearby hospitals.
Authorities said many of those who died suffered severe burns or died from smoke inhalation. Several injured victims remain in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest the blaze may have started after an explosion inside the building, but officials have not confirmed what triggered it. Investigators are also examining whether the pub complied with fire safety regulations, including emergency exits and safety equipment.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones. The government has ordered a detailed inquiry and promised strict action if any violations of safety rules are found.
The incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety standards in crowded public venues across Thailand. Experts say proper emergency planning, regular inspections and clear evacuation routes are essential to prevent such disasters.
As families gathered outside hospitals and the accident site, many waited anxiously for news about missing relatives. Survivors described scenes of fear and confusion as people desperately tried to escape the rapidly spreading flames.
