Iran has significantly widened its military campaign in the Gulf, launching coordinated missile and drone strikes on American military assets across the region. The attacks mark one of the biggest escalations in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
According to reports, Iran targeted US Patriot missile defence systems, drone fleets and military installations in several Gulf countries. The strikes came shortly after attacks around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes, further increasing tensions in the region.
Iran’s military said the operation was aimed at weakening US defence capabilities and responding to what it described as continued American aggression. Officials claimed the attacks successfully hit several strategic targets, though independent verification of the extent of the damage is still awaited.
The strikes reportedly involved a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones launched in multiple waves. Some reports also suggested Iran relied on advanced satellite navigation technology to improve the accuracy of its weapons, making interception more difficult.
The United States has not confirmed the full extent of the damage but acknowledged that several military facilities in the Gulf came under attack. American forces activated air defence systems, including Patriot missile batteries, to intercept incoming missiles and drones. Initial assessments indicated that some projectiles were successfully destroyed before reaching their targets.
The latest escalation follows weeks of growing hostility between Tehran and Washington, with both sides exchanging military strikes and sharp diplomatic warnings. The conflict has also disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, pushing global oil prices higher and raising concerns over energy supplies.
Several Gulf nations have increased security around critical infrastructure and military bases as they monitor the rapidly changing situation. International leaders have urged both countries to exercise restraint and avoid further actions that could trigger a wider regional war.
