Centre assures no fuel shortage, warns industries

Industrial users asked to avoid sourcing fuel from retail outlets

The government has assured that petrol and diesel supplies in India remain normal and has advised industrial consumers not to divert fuel purchases to retail petrol pumps. The move follows reports of increased industrial buying at retail outlets in some regions.

The Petroleum Ministry said there is no fuel shortage in the country and supply chains are operating smoothly. Officials stressed that industries should continue using authorised bulk procurement systems instead of relying on public fuel stations.

According to the government, retail pumps are intended mainly for individual consumers and transport vehicles. Large-scale industrial purchases from these outlets could create avoidable pressure on local fuel availability and disrupt regular distribution patterns.

Authorities clarified that oil marketing companies currently have sufficient fuel inventories and logistics support to meet demand. Monitoring mechanisms have also been strengthened to track unusual fuel purchases and maintain balanced supply across markets.

The advisory comes amid concerns linked to global crude oil volatility and geopolitical developments affecting international energy markets. However, officials said India’s fuel reserves and import arrangements remain stable.

Oil companies are expected to continue reviewing supply movements and coordinating with state authorities to avoid any disruption. The government has urged businesses and consumers not to believe rumours regarding fuel shortages.

Industry experts said the government’s message is intended to prevent panic buying and maintain confidence in the fuel supply system. They noted that industrial fuel procurement is generally managed through dedicated commercial agreements with suppliers.
