The government is considering using Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft to transport question papers for the upcoming NEET-UG retest, in a major step aimed at tightening exam security.
The proposal comes after the NEET paper leak controversy triggered widespread criticism, protests, and anxiety among students and parents across the country. Authorities are now looking at stronger safeguards to prevent any repeat of irregularities during the retest process.
According to reports, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and government officials are exploring the use of IAF logistics to ensure question papers are delivered safely and quickly to examination centres. The move is intended to minimise risks of leaks, tampering, or delays during transportation.
Officials believe the Air Force’s controlled transport network and high-security operations could help restore confidence in the examination system, which came under intense scrutiny after allegations of malpractice emerged earlier this year.
The NEET-UG exam is one of India’s largest entrance tests, conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses. With millions of students appearing every year, even small disruptions can have a major impact on careers and public trust.
The controversy surrounding the exam had also raised questions about the security of national-level competitive tests and the preparedness of authorities to handle sensitive examination material.
While a final decision on deploying IAF aircraft is yet to be officially announced, the plan reflects the seriousness with which the government is treating the issue.
Education experts say the move could improve security during transit, but stress that long-term reforms are also necessary. They argue that stronger digital monitoring, tighter logistics systems, and greater accountability will be crucial to preventing future leaks.
