Iranian officials have dismissed reports that President Masoud Pezeshkian submitted his resignation to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling the claims baseless and inaccurate.
The reports, which circulated in several media outlets and on social media, alleged that Pezeshkian had offered to step down amid tensions within Iran’s political establishment. Some reports suggested the move was linked to concerns over the growing influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and differences over the country’s governance.
However, a senior official from the President’s office denied the claims, stating that no resignation letter had been submitted. The official said Pezeshkian continues to perform his duties as President and urged people not to rely on unverified information.
The speculation comes at a time when Iran is dealing with multiple challenges, including economic difficulties, regional tensions and diplomatic pressures. Any reports involving changes in the country’s leadership tend to attract significant attention due to their potential impact on domestic and foreign policy.
Pezeshkian, who came to power after winning the presidential election, has focused on addressing economic issues and improving governance. Since taking office, he has worked within Iran’s complex political system, where elected leaders operate alongside powerful institutions and security bodies.
The government’s swift denial appears aimed at ending speculation and reassuring the public about political stability. Officials insist that the President remains fully engaged in his responsibilities and that reports of his resignation are unfounded.
