Iran signals draft US deal to be signed remotely soon

Tehran reports progress on draft understanding with Washington

Iran has indicated that a draft agreement with the United States is close to being finalised and could be signed remotely in the coming days, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Speaking on developments in ongoing diplomatic negotiations, Araghchi said that both sides have worked on a draft understanding aimed at reducing tensions and setting out a framework for future commitments. He suggested that the signing of the document may not require an in-person meeting and could be completed through remote coordination once final approvals are secured.

The proposed arrangement is being described by Iranian officials as a memorandum of understanding that would outline steps intended to de-escalate regional conflict and stabilise relations. Tehran has framed the initiative as part of broader efforts to “end war on all fronts,” though detailed provisions of the draft have not been made public.

Reports suggest that the discussions have been mediated indirectly, with multiple rounds of exchanges addressing security concerns, sanctions-related issues, and regional stability. Both sides are believed to be working through final technical and political adjustments before formalisation.

Iranian officials have emphasised that the agreement, if signed, would represent an initial step rather than a comprehensive peace treaty. It is expected to establish a framework for further negotiations on wider disputes between Tehran and Washington.

The announcement comes amid continued regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving multiple international actors seeking to reduce escalation risks in the Middle East. Analysts note that while the progress signals movement in dialogue channels, the durability and implementation of any agreement will depend on verification mechanisms and mutual compliance.
