OpenAI brings codex to ChatGPT app

Users can now manage AI coding tasks remotely from their phones via ChatGPT

OpenAI has added its coding assistant Codex to the ChatGPT mobile app, allowing users to monitor and control coding tasks directly from their phones.

Codex is an AI tool that helps developers write code, fix bugs, review changes and suggest improvements. Until now, it was mainly used on desktop systems. With the new update, users can stay connected to their coding work even when they are away from their computers.

Through the mobile app, users can review code outputs, approve changes, track progress and start new coding tasks remotely. However, actual code execution still runs on connected machines such as laptops or cloud systems, while the phone acts as a control centre.

The feature is currently rolling out in preview for both Android and iOS users. It is designed for developers who want to manage ongoing projects without being tied to a desktop setup.

OpenAI said the move is aimed at improving flexibility and productivity, especially as AI coding tools become more widely used in software development. The company is also competing with similar tools from other AI firms in the fast-growing developer tools market.

Codex was originally launched as a desktop-focused coding assistant earlier this year and has now been extended to mobile to support remote workflows.

The update is expected to make it easier for developers to collaborate with AI systems in real time, review changes faster and keep projects moving even while on the go.
