Reliance Industries is set to shut down select units at its 660,000 barrels-per-day refinery for scheduled maintenance, a senior petroleum ministry official has confirmed. The shutdown will continue for approximately three to four weeks.
The affected units include a crude processing unit and multiple secondary refining units at the Jamnagar refinery complex in Gujarat. The maintenance is expected to begin later this month.
Officials stated that the shutdown has been carefully timed following the planned restart of Nayara Energy’s refinery operations. This coordination is aimed at ensuring there is no disruption in fuel supply across India during the maintenance period.
The Jamnagar refinery is a critical part of Reliance’s refining infrastructure and is among the largest refinery complexes globally. It plays a major role in supplying petroleum products for domestic markets and exports.
The planned shutdown is part of routine maintenance activities carried out periodically in large industrial refineries. These operations are essential for inspecting equipment, improving efficiency, and maintaining safety standards.
Sources indicated that the decision is operational in nature and not linked to any breakdown or unexpected issue. The company typically schedules such maintenance in coordination with market demand and supply conditions.
Reliance operates multiple refining units at its Jamnagar complex, which together form one of the most significant refining hubs in the world. The facility processes large quantities of crude oil into transport fuels and petrochemical feedstocks.
The petroleum ministry official said the maintenance window is expected to be managed in a way that minimizes any impact on fuel availability. The staggered timing with other refinery operations is designed to maintain supply stability.
Reliance has not provided an official comment on the shutdown so far.
